Sunday's Hip Hop Leaked Singles! (4/18/10) Part 2

Jason Derulo - HeartBeat (Feat. Wiz Khalifa) R&B songs are not a norm around these parts, when they show up, they're on fire, and we try and help fuel the flame. Get a load of this banger! Fresh off "borrowing" lyrics from Imogen Heap, Derulo delivers along the Wiz Kid, for an infectious body shaker. Preach on Wiz.

Dorrough - Get Big (Feat. Nitti) Summary: Get big and get that paper. Two themes that plague this generations rhymes. However, Dorrough brings such good dance flavor and vibe to tracks to make them shine. "..she was like yaaa buddy." You don't say so?

Jay Rock - Who Am I (Feat. Lea) This old school Al Green style beat sets the tone for the story. Jay Rock has steady been on his grind in the blogosphere this year, mad props for stayin' on ya grind homie. "I'm a product of these projects, the crack that you cook up / I'm the needle that you shoot up, I'm the gutta, I'm the sewer."

Young Buck - Til I Get Off Work Alright, Buck used to workin' with millions, he's tryin' to relate to the average person with this joint. Glad he's reppin' the ordinary people. Great feelin' with this song, the beat does Buck justice.

S. Fresh - Venom [Remix] (Feat. Rick Ross) With a beat like this, Ricky would have done better to rap as fast at the beginning of his verse, as he did at the end. The auto-tune chorus is rather annoying, starts to sound like squealing after a few listens. "...tell your top 5 favorite rappers get a rop and hang they self." S. Fresh keeps his lyrics pretty fresh.

Rebstar - Dead Or Alive There's a lot of promise in the future for Rebstar if he works on his game. The beat seems a little lacking in perspective to what his lyrics talk about. Something dark, with more bass kicks would have been a better beat for a song like this. Lyrically, Rebstar has moments of brilliance, but overall he's still behind with spit game.

Gucci Mane - Do This Shit Again (Feat. Yo Gotti & Rick Ross) Here's a few artists who've been featured before. Love everything about this joint, it's pretty fire. Yo Gotti got the second verse and he's bringing it. Ricky is just being Ricky on this one, "I'm livin' like the governor / voted for the president, Barrack a born hustler." Download this banga.

Barrington Levy - Watch Dem (Feat. Snoop Dogg & MIMS) Here's a mashup out of left field. Snoop & MIMS go hard on this, it's hard to think MIMS can spit a good verse but he can and does. Snoop outshines him though, best out of Snoop I've heard in a minute.

Cypress Hill - Light it Up Never being much of a Cypress Hill fan I'll let everyone else pass judgment on this joint. The first verse was pretty good, lovin' the sound. Cypress Hill lights it up for real on this track. If you're not a fan like I was get up on Cypress Hill, they're pretty great.

Jay Rock - Money on Mayweather Some more new music from the young gangsta Jay Rock. There's a lot of emotion behind the verses of Jay Rock. One can here the truth and meaning behind his rhymes. "...a big bark with a bigger bite / you talk you pay the price."

Jay Rock - Ain't No Sunshine

Ain't No Sunshine is bumped over an older DMX sample. Who did it better? That's for your ear to judge. Jay Rock tells the tale of a down-and-out gangsta. This is very mellow, the chorus is tight, so are each verse. "Heaven or a hell, don't nobody know / when you fall asleep and don't wake up then you know." Truth.

Jay Rock - They Want My Spot (Feat. Ab-Soul)

Sometimes these songs, and more so albums, sit in a queue for a while. This one has been sittin' in a folder for three days. They Want My Spot is all about how Jay Rock won't lose his spot, as if he didn't already know that. "Only the real nigga's feel my style / that's why their ears to the speaker homie hear me out." With that said, shouldn't you be listening to this, instead of reading this useless last sentence? Thought so.

Jay Rock - Roll On (Feat. Kendrick Lamar & Major James)

Don't roll on past this joint, download it. Jay Rock has been all over the place these past couple of years. It's less ironic to say that Jay Rock himself is on a roll like sonic. Seems like Jay Rock has so much momentum this year it will be hard to find a better young rapper. Props to Kendrick Lamar and Major James, everyone keepin' it real hard. Cop this joint.

DJ Whoo Kid - XXL's 10 Freshman For '10

XXL's annual freshman issue has had much hype surrounding it this year. Drink Gas was excited to see Pill & Oj Da Juiceman make the cover, we've been pushing them here for a while, more-so Juice when he emerged last spring. These freshman are runnin' shit. There's no lacking artist, every artist deserves their own cover for puttin' in work how they do. 17 songs packed with more punches than Mike Tyson, the only problem we had with it was why did Pill, Wiz Khalifa & Big Sean only get one song? That's the only gripe with this mix tape. DJ Whoo Kid did a great job, and all the artists represent to the fullest. Look out in the future for these cats, they're on the prowl now.
